The Full Story

Western Gaels are a GAA club based in Bristol, England. The club was formed in 1961 and since then has gone on to be a successful community run club for the people of Bristol and surrounding areas including Bath, Swindon, Taunton, Weston Super Mare and across Gloucestershire.

Western Gaels, Bristol are the most successful GAA club in Gloucestershire having won the Gloucestershire Senior Football Championship a record 19 times since its inception in 1950.

Western Gaels have two senior teams, a men’s team and a women’s team. The season usually runs February to October with various blitz tournaments across the south west in that time, as well as the League and Championship. Preseason training begins in February across a number of venues in Bristol, namely the Bristol Downs for fitness sessions, and our home ground which is owned by St. Marys Old Boys Rugby Club.

Throughout the year the club hosts numerous social events across both teams in the club, with nights out organised throughout the season in addition to the post match sessions.

Preseason fitness training for the 2022 season kicks off in January – see more information here.

Games will start in March and April this year and are spread out throughout the season for the league and the championship.

This year, we will also be hosting an event for the clubs 60th Anniversary, with more information on that to be released soon.
